STOMP AT THE SAVOY!

Come take a trip back to the 1930s to the era of “Harlem Nights” and the Beautiful Savoy Ballroom and the Cotton Club in Harlem. A place where women had on “shake your shimmy” dresses with big jewelry and men wore “dapper” suits with their hats tipped to the side.

Enjoy an evening of style and elegance at the 4th Annual “Stompin’ at the SAVOY” fundraiser. This event is hosted by The Howey Hudson Lowe Foundation, Inc. with Medical Network for Education and Research. On Saturday, November 8th, at the Holiday Inn Select Downtown Decatur, you will thoroughly be entertained with the sultry sound of live jazz and entertainment and a little something for your dancing pleasure.

Renditions of great music and performances from the past will include Rhapsody LaChic featuring Delores Major, electric jazz funk violinist, with Ron James, saxophonist, vocalists Adrion Bell, Myrna Clayton and Charlena Nutal, Terrence “Taps” Bennett, The Peachtree Steppers, and the SAVOY Dancers.

This benefit will provide resources for homeless families and children in efforts to continue to eradicate homelessness. We are asking you to support our fundraising efforts by purchasing a ticket, a listing in the program, or an in-kind contribution to support the initiatives of this foundation.

It’s not too early to reserve your space! Gather your friends and family for a table of 10 or an intimate date of 2 for your true Savoy experience. A $50 donation will include general seating and dinner too! VIP Tables for two are also available for a donation of $100 per person for that very special celebration.

Dekalb County Babies Can’t Wait & Dekalb Interagency Coordination Council is holding it’s 3td Annual Baby Steps Walk. Come out and walk for a cause. Support early intervention for children ages 0-5 years old. Babies Can’t Wait

Babies Can’t Wait (BCW) is Georgia’s statewide interagency service delivery system for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities and their families. BCW is established by Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) which guarantees all eligible children, regardless of their disability, access to services that will enhance their development. Additional information about IDEA and national efforts supporting the implementation of the early childhood provisions of the law is available through the National Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center

• The Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health is the lead agency administering the Babies Can’t Wait Program in Georgia. The Division ensures that: services are provided in accordance with federal guidelines;
• families have access to the services which are needed to enhance their child’s development; and

training is available to ensure that professionals who work with children and families have up-to-date information

Babies Can’t Wait is administered through 18 District offices throughout the state. Through the 18 offices, children and families in every county in Georgia can access early intervention services. Anyone can refer a child to Babies Can’t Wait. In order to refer a child to BCW for an evaluation, contact the district office which serves the county in which the child and family reside. You may use the Children and Youth with Special Needs Coordinator Contact List for information on how to reach local Babies Can’t Wait Programs.

The Local Interagency Coordinating Councils (LICC) are the regional compliment of the State ICC. The LICCs work collaboratively with the State ICC to advise and assist the local health districts in planning and implementing local early intervention service delivery systems for the local Babies Can’t Wait Programs. The LICCs welcome your participation and are located in each of the health districts.

4Ever A Princess

4ever A Princess Hosts Their First Annual Debutante Event

An African American entrepreneur and mother is planning a Sweet 16 event as a precursor to a not-for-profit debutante-type society for disadvantaged African American teen females. She calls the Sweet 16 party she is planning for her daughter a “pilot program” for the 4Ever A Princess Society. In preparation for the annual event, 10-12 females complete an eight week program that holistically develops them from a cultural and spiritual perspective.

Camille Dykes sees a need in young girls, especially among African American teens to be affirmed and edified as young women. She says the ones who need to be celebrated the most are celebrated the least in most cases due to a lack of finance. All girls dream of being a debutante she says. She saw the combination of the two [the need to be affirmed and the dream to be a debutante] as an inroad to building these girls spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.

4Ever A Princess has a website announcing the event and most importantly a blog that follows their progress. Each girl journals her experiences, thoughts, and feelings on the weekly rehearsals and activities of the program in the 4Ever A Princess blog. In preparation for this first event, Ms. Dykes has already seen a change in the girls currently participating in the program. Her daughter, Raven Dykes, the designated leader of the group says she already sees a difference in her confidence level since starting the program.

LITHONIA, GEORGIA – August 18, 2008 – Doreen Carter, CEO of Wealth & Wisdom Resource Group has teamed up with More Than Events, to host “MoM-Me Back to School Party. Now that school is back in session most Moms are looking forward to having a little more time to themselves (Me time)… But, if you are like many of the Moms that we know, you have probably already put something in that slot. However, on Tuesday, September 4, 2008, you are invited to spend some time with Moms just like you in taking out a little time to just breathe. “I spent most of my summer trying to entertain the kids, complete their summer bridge books, attend meetings, work my business, training for a contract, serve in the community and ministry, occasionally cook and clean…,” said Doreen Carter. “Now I need a break.” For the past several years Carter says she would joke about having a back to school party for moms. Now, this year she is really doing it. Women today are having to take on more and more responsibilities and often times they forget to take care of themselves. So, for a couple of hours on September 4th 2008 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., you can join Doreen Carter and other moms at the Wealth & Wisdom Resource Group located at 6860 Main Street Lithonia Georgia to unwind and relax before you head back out to get the kids.
